{"id":2707,"date":"2025-08-02T13:03:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-02T13:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foxiz.themeruby.com\/buzzvibe\/?p=2707"},"modified":"2026-04-08T00:14:27","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T00:14:27","slug":"nairobi-coffee-exchange-to-admit-5-capital-markets-licensed-brokers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thecoffeeledger.co.ke\/?p=2707","title":{"rendered":"Nairobi Coffee Exchange to Admit 5 Capital Markets Licensed Brokers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text-muted-background dark:text-neutral-300 leading-relaxed text-sm lg:text-base mb-4 last:mb-0 \">The Nairobi Coffee Exchange\u00a0<a class=\"text-blue-600 dark:text-blue-400 hover:text-blue-700 dark:hover:text-blue-300 hover:underline font-medium text-sm lg:text-base transition-colors duration-200 \" href=\"https:\/\/nairobicoffeeexchange.co.ke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(NCE)<\/a>\u00a0is set to accept the five brokers licensed by the Capital Markets Authority\u00a0<a class=\"text-blue-600 dark:text-blue-400 hover:text-blue-700 dark:hover:text-blue-300 hover:underline font-medium text-sm lg:text-base transition-colors duration-200 \" href=\"https:\/\/www.cma.or.ke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(CMA)<\/a>, reversing an earlier decision in which the exchange resisted their admission to the auction for two years<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-muted-background dark:text-neutral-300 leading-relaxed text-sm lg:text-base mb-4 last:mb-0 \">CMA granted licenses to United Eastern Kenya Coffee Marketing Company, Meru County Coffee Marketing Agency Limited, Kipkelion Brokerage Company Limited, Mt Elgon Coffee Marketing Agency, Murang\u2019a County Coffee Dealers Limited and Embu Coffee Farmers Marketing Agency Limited.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-muted-background dark:text-neutral-300 leading-relaxed text-sm lg:text-base mb-4 last:mb-0 \">The Nairobi Coffee Exchange had resisted the admission of the five brokers who received regulatory approval by CMA in 2021, following an argument by the former Agriculture CS Peter Munya that it was his ministry\u2019s mandate because the Crops Act had not been amended, and subsequently threatened to have the regulations repealed on the grounds that the CMA did not involve all stakeholders when formulating the new regulations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-muted-background dark:text-neutral-300 leading-relaxed text-sm lg:text-base mb-4 last:mb-0 \">The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) issued the first set of licenses to five brokers on June 28, 2021, by the Capital Markets (Coffee Exchange) Regulations of 2020.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-muted-background dark:text-neutral-300 leading-relaxed text-sm lg:text-base mb-4 last:mb-0 \">This marks a victory for CMA after a prolonged dispute with the National Coffee Exchange (NCE) led by Daniel Mbithi which led the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) on January 23rd to extended the in-principle approval granted to the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) to continue operating as a coffee exchange until April 30, 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-muted-background dark:text-neutral-300 leading-relaxed text-sm lg:text-base mb-4 last:mb-0 \">The approval was granted by the Capital Markets (Coffee Exchange) Regulations, 2020, with the understanding that NCE will work towards full compliance with the Coffee Exchange Regulations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nairobi Coffee Exchange\u00a0(NCE)\u00a0is set to accept the five brokers licensed by the Capital Markets Authority\u00a0(CMA), reversing an earlier decision in which the exchange resisted their admission to the auction for two years.
